Anico Mostert is a multi-disciplinary artist, painter andprintmaker from Cape Town. She graduated from Michaelis School of Fine Art atthe University of Cape Town in 2017, where she majored in printmaking. Anicocurrently lives and works from her home studio in Cape Town.
Anico’s work celebrates quiet, everyday moments. Her practice is an intuitive process of learning anddiscovery in which she creates the feeling of space by overlaying pastel shadesand vivid colours with semi-abstracted figures. By referencing images from socialmedia and snapshots, she recreates painted compositions from ordinary scenes. The works upend familiarity, reminiscent of home spaces, yet offering a surreal swing of imagery, whererooms are unpeopled and yet full of life and pictures of people are empty ofobjects. Her works exude a calm quietness, illustrating unexpected details andunassuming scenarios that verge on the mundane but are illuminated through herattention and careful colour choices.
